We understand the recent news coverage showing instances of racism in Australia is concerning for many.

South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) would like to reassure our community that we take this issue seriously and will not tolerate any form of racism against our patients, visitors or staff.

Everyone, no matter their race, values, customs, religion or spiritual beliefs, will receive the highest levels of care at our network of hospitals and community-based services.

We ensure that our staff respect the dignity and rights of all patients and are committed to looking after all those requiring our care with empathy and professionalism.

SMHS acknowledges the strength diversity brings to Western Australia and is committed to providing fair and equitable access to services and quality care for all members of our community.

SMHS also recognise the significant benefits creating a diverse and inclusive workplace has in establishing a respectful and harmonious organisational culture.

We are committed to the SMHS Multicultural Plan which outlines our commitment to becoming a health service that provides equal opportunities for all consumers and staff.

A unifying set of values and behaviours in place at SMHS builds the same expectations and conduct – for our staff, patients and community. This includes our vision – excellent health care, every time – and our values (care, excellence, integrity, respect, teamwork), which alongside our strategic plan and stringent codes of conduct, set out how we interact with each other, and those in our care.

Please be assured we recognise the unique position we are in caring for our community and see it as the great privilege it is.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Keep up to date with our news and achievements
